Laura Halick, Master of Music, Vocal Performance

For 24 years, Laura Halick has been teaching piano and training singers in-person and, since COVID, online. She has recently relocated to East Cobb from the DC area.
Her expertise is in functional vocal technique and performance. Laura coaches singers in very different styles: country, folk, jazz, rock and more. She formally has trained and performed in many vocal styles–musical theatre, jazz, country, jazz, rock, and opera.
After training with Laura, many students work professionally in music education, music therapy, or in arts administration. Others record their own music or perform on Broadway, in regional theatre, as well as in amateur university, community and high school musical theatre. The Jimmy Awards, National Capital Area Cappies, Governor’s Schools, and All-State Chorus organizations frequently give performing awards to her high school students.
Laura is a college application coach who prepares students for acceptance to prestigious universities for vocal music, opera, music education, acting, or musical theatre. University of Michigan, CCM, Boston Conservatory, NYU, Syracuse University, Rider University, George Mason University, UNC Greensboro, FSU, Marymount Manhattan, University of the Arts, and universities in the U.K. are examples of universities her students have attended.
Laura’s strengths are selecting repertoire, arranging audition cuts, prepping for auditions and coaching diction in foreign languages. Beginning in 2001, Laura was the musical theatre vocal coach at Center Stage for Dance in Fairfax. Previously, she was the vocal coach at the Professional Musical Theatre and Actors Studio at Fairfax Academy for Communication and the Arts in Fairfax, Virginia. She also was the musical director at Annandale High School for their mainstage musicals.
Laura has taught applied voice at Northern Virginia Community College and chorus at Bishop O’Connell High School. She has judged for many vocal competitions.
In 2001, Laura graduated with her Master of Music in Vocal Performance degree from The Catholic University of America. A full lyric soprano, she has trained most recently with Jeanie LoVetri, Carla Rae Cook and Elizabeth Daniels. She has given solo recitals, performed leading roles in musical theatre and opera productions, and has sung in ensembles at the Kennedy Center and, as a child, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
Laura is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association, & the Somatic Voicework™ Teachers Association.
